Jumping Through Hoops

The first Hoop 2007 of a series of 5 leading upto the cultural olympiad 2012.

Zoe says,

The Diablo web site is the start of an effective resource and way forward for disabled artists and architecture professionals to initiate ideas for including disabled artists as creative professionals in architectural practises and design teams’.

Hoop 1 has been devised from Zoë’s passion for creative equality in the public realm. The concept and Hoops are a reference to the barriers and obstructions placed in front of disabled people. It is an intervention to open up the debate about disabled artists existence in contemporary art and to show it’s not just about putting a ramp in a certain place but about the improvements to the infrastructure surrounding disabled people and their everyday lives that makes 'Disability Arts' contemporary forward thinking and relevant. The series of Hoops exposes a creative approach to emotional access through public art, architecture and design.

It is a statement that attacks the very heart of segregation and the continual dis-empowerment of disabled people.

Zoe says ‘I want to push the audience to re-consider their ideas and mis-conceptions about disabled people and address the way forward and look beyond the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)’
